Colored Meters

Colored Meters is based on different dyeing techniques with the intention of broadening the understanding of the complexity of the craft.

"Colored Meters" is based on different dyeing techniques with the intention of broadening the understanding of the complexity of the craft. The members of the workshop have been invited to create a textile installation, a landscape of dyed, patterned fabric. The installation will highlight the unique expression and possibilities of the craft while questioning the contemporary attitude towards textiles as a quick and cheap product with a short lifespan.

The craft techniques for patterning textiles using dyeing are many and our hope is that the exhibition will give a taste of several of them, from historical techniques using plant dyes to modern reactive colors; from mordant printing to discharge printing on colored ground. The installation "Colored Meters" becomes a stance for genuine craftsmanship that encourages well-considered choices of products that should last a long time and against mass production where fabrics are produced under poor conditions and with enormous environmental impact. We simply want to encourage a sustainable approach to textiles. Dissonance - the desire to drive change.
