Resonance

Hand-tufting is the textile technique that Anja Fredell mainly uses to create her sculptural objects, carpets and wall hangings. In her artistic work, she is interested in the relationship between body and space and its consequences. The works can be said to express inner relationships that are illustrated through colours and powerful movements.

Fredell holds an MA in textile art from HDK-Valand, Gothenburg. She lives and works in Gothenburg.

With a background in both crafts and art history, Frida Lundén Mörck's practice is often based on norm criticism and philosophical issues. In the glass series Subversive Softness she explores how plasticity as a concept can be used to describe the resistance of the malleable.

Lundén Mörck holds an MA from Konstfack CRAFT! in Stockholm and a BFA in product design for glass from Linnaeus University in Växjö. She is based in Boda, Småland.

In his work, Jögge Sundqvist relates to folk culture and tradition-based knowledge where art, quality and working methods are linked. He works in raw wood with hand tools and makes folk art painted stools, chairs, knives, cabinets, spoons and troughs, sculptures and word boards.

Sundqvist is a woodworker, lecturer, enthusiast and author, with a workshop and studio in Kasamark, Umeå. Since 1997 he has used the alter ego s u r o l l e.

For Laura Blake, craft is a space where people and materials meet. Inspired by nature, her tactile textile and wood pieces focus on colour, surface and repetition. Blake explores craft from a sensory perspective and often co-creates her work with neurodivergent and disabled artists and audiences.

Blake holds a BA in Embroidery from Manchester School of Fine Art and an MFA in Textile-Body-Space from HDK-Valand Campus Steneby.

Linn Sjöstedt's ceramic sculptures reflect the absurdities of everyday life. She likes to work with clay in combination with other materials and it is in the collision between these that the stories emerge. In Keramisk Bondage, a series of colourful pots, Sjöstedt has used matching straps that appear to tighten the clay and bring to mind a waistband around a plump body.

Sjöstedt is educated at Konstfack, Stockholm, in the ceramics and glass programme. She works in the G-studio in Gustavsberg.

"With one foot in the present - with the immediate impressions of the eye and the senses, and the other in the history of jewellery and the landscape of memories." This is how Ulrika Swärd describes her approach to the decorative. What at first glance looks innocently decorated carries layers of culture that she herself has experienced. Her works span between now and then, like a mental double exposure where two worlds go in and out of each other.

Swärd holds an MA in metal from Konstfack, Stockholm. She lives and works on the Bjäre Peninsula in Skåne.

The Swedish Crafts Centre is the only occupational organisation for professional craft artists working in Sweden, with around 750 members from all over the country. The aim for the organisation is to highlight, develop and raise the status of crafts in contemporary culture, nationally as well as internationally. Through public events, exhibitions, competence-enhancing and intermediary activities, the goal is to improve the financial situation for members.
